Apple iPhone a multimedia and internet enabled handset

The iPhone launched by Apple Inc. in 2007, is a multimedia and internet enabled mobile phone with the functions of a camera phone and ipod with text messaging and visual voice mail. The iPhone even provides Internet services including e-mail, web browsing and local Wi-fi connectivity.

It was quite obvious for Apple to come up with a music mobile phone to counter sony Ericsson's Walkman phones,Nokia;s Xpress Music phones and other such music solutions from other mobile manufacturers. The end result was the Apple i-Phone – a sleek music phone with enhanced music playing skills that matches the best in the business.

The Apple i-Phone is easily identifiable by its 3.5 inch TFT based display that can produce a massive 16 million vibrant and accurate colours. The handset’s designers were able to place such a large screen on a mobile phone of 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm dimension only because they have left out its conventional keypad. The Apple i-Phone instead uses the touchscreen with multi-touch input method to work on the phone. That way, one can use his fingers to operate instead of a stylus that saves a lot of hassle.

The Apple iPhone comes with an array of features. It features a good email system. The handset includes popular email standards — IMAP and POP3. More, the Apple iPhone works with most popular email services, including Google Gmail, AOL, Yahoo! Mail, and .Mac Mail. There is also a provision for Push emails. The Apple iPhone also provides a lot of security features.

The Apple iPhones have the facilities like conferencing, call holding and call merging, caller ID, and integration with other cellular network features making it much more attractive and sophisticated.The special ring tone feature introduced by Apple helps the users to create their own custom ringtones on the mobile phone.

The Apple iPhone comes with headphones built-in microphone of frequency response from 20Hz to 20,000Hz and impedance of 32 ohms. To make it compatible to Mac computer, it can be done with USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later and iTunes 7.3 or later.

And in H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

It is possible in iPhone to sort the media library by songs, artists, albums, videos, playlists, genres, composers and compilations. The users using iPhone are allowed to purchase and download songs to iPhone from the iTunes Store directly through Wi-fi technology.
